They call me Mr. Hood

I am happy to introduce myself to all of the orchestra family at Killian Middle School.  My name is Ezra Hood, and LISD has has hired to join the LISD music family and lead the string orchestras at KMS.

I’m a teacher, husband, and dad of four (two of my kids walk with me in the photo above).  Music has been a close companion for all of my life.  I first played piano as a child, adding violin in the fifth grade.  I played, sang, and wrote my way to a music composition degree from TCU first violin and vocal scholarships.  In the last decade I’ve frequently played organ at church.

After a detour to law school and a few years’ law practice, I returned to music full-time in Dallas, starting an orchestra program at Alex Sanger elementary and middle schools.  I am thrilled to join the Killian team, and work with the students, staff, and parents to grow the program in close cooperation with the growing program at Hebron High School.

Mr. Cautivar will be stopping in now and then, and I hope all of you will grow your passion for string music with me, and then join Mr. Cautivar’s string orchestras at Hebron High in due time.

Join my edmodo.com classroom; I’ll soon have this year’s all-region scales and excerpts posted there, as well as some of our first musical assignments.
